Greetings All,
At this point, we are still planning to rehearse tomorrow evening. I
hope to see you all there. We do have several concerts coming up that
will be very important to the audiences that we will be serving. We
will be doing our part to keep our community together and serve our
friends and neighbors.
I know many of you are directly effected by the events of the past
week and others are indirectly effected. Jackie Nutter (wife of
delegate Dave Nutter) has sent this note to Renee who has asked that
I share it with you. If you would like to do something for the
community (outside of band), this is a great way for you show your
support.
Thanks, and I look forward to see you all tomorrow.

Hi
I'm trying to get this out by working through my friends this weekend
and hopefully to the wider community somewhat on Monday.
I wanted to do something after talking to a neighbor whose husband is
on the Blacksburg police force and hearing from another friend about
the trauma of one of her friends on the police force.
This is the message I'm sending to people I know; if you have friends
who might like to help, please let them know; I hope to get a large
amount of donations ($5,000 - $6,000) quickly:
As you certainly are aware, the Blacksburg and Virginia Tech police
departments have suffered greatly this week. They really need to
feel appreciated by the community. To that end, I am organizing the
effort outlined below. Please feel free to call (552-9123, 230-8176)
or email if you have questions. There are 72 Blacksburg officers and
staff, and I don't yet know how many VT officers & staff. I hope to
be able to get these gifts to them quickly, by the end of next week
if possible.
A fund has been established at First National Bank to receive
contributions to give a token of appreciation to the Blacksburg
Police officers and staff; if enough money is raised, gifts will also
go to the Virginia Tech Police Officers and staff. This fund will
be used to give a sizeable restaurant gift certificate to each of
these officers and staff. Area restaurants are helping with
discounts and donations. Donations may be delivered to any FNB
branch; checks should be made payable to: "Police Appreciation
Fund". These gifts will be given on behalf of the entire community
in appreciation for the officers' service.
The "sizeable restaurant gift certificate" goal is $50 for each
officer/staff. I will also have a "treasurer" to keep a full
accounting of all donations and will have a treasurer to verify ; FNB
does not have any responsibility for the account.
You may deposit donations at FNB or give directly to me, in checks or
cash. I will be happy to pick up donations, too.
Thank you very, very much for whatever support you can give.
