Greetings fellow musicians!
I just wanted to say that I so enjoyed reading
everyone's comments regarding the Chatter in band
rehearsals discussion thread. While I have played
with community bands for many years, I am new as
a conductor and was getting a bit discouraged
with the amount of chatter in my group. I
attributed it to the fact that, at 30 years old,
I am at least 25 years younger than the next
youngest member of the band, and I look like I am
about 20 years old. I'm also a moderately short
female, and am aware that I don't have a terribly
commanding presence on the podium (something I
hope will change with experience...since I'm not
getting any taller:). But, thanks to the email
thread, I now look at the chatter in my group in
a different (more positive) light. I really
appreciated people's suggestions on ways to react
or address the chatter. I have been a member of
this listserv for seven years and am constantly
reminded by the discussions why community music
is so wonderful. Thank you!
