The Blacksburg Community Band will presenting its
18th Annual Spring Concert on Sunday, March 25,
2007, at 4:00 pm in the Blacksburg High School
Auditorium on Patrick Henry Drive in Blacksburg,
Virginia. Under the direction of Ed Schwartz, the
band will play a variety of music that will
provide a great afternoon of entertainment for
the entire family.
Associate Director, Steve Brown, will take the
podium to direct several numbers, including his
original composition, "Anzio", based on the
Allied amphibious assault in 1944 on the beaches
of Anzio, Italy. The work "Kellie's Song" by
local composer and long-time band member, John R.
Howell, will also be featured with oboe soloist
Kellie Keeling. Other solos include the haunting
"Prayer of Saint Gregory" by Alan Hovhaness with
Jason Thomsen performing the trumpet solo, and
"Chant du Rossignol" by F. Filipovsky featuring
Mary Walters on the piccolo. The band will also
perform selections from "Bye Bye Birdie" to
promote the Summer Musical Enterprise's
production of the popular Broadway Musical later
this year.
Admission is free and a reception will follow the concert.
