Joseph Blaha will perform with the Blacksburg Community Band under the
direction of Mr. Ed Schwartz for a massed band concert Thursday, October 11
in the Olin Hall Theater on the campus of Roanoke College at 7:30 p.m.
Both transcriptions and original compositions from wind band literature will

enough) October will be presented along with compositions by three regional
composers, John Raymond Howell, Steve Brown and Joseph Blaha.
Variations on a Hymn Tune: April, 1912 by John Raymond Howell, Associate
Professor of Music at Virginia Tech, is a musical depiction of the last
moments of the R.M.S. Titanic in the north Atlantic. Steve Brown's
composition, Anzio, is a concert march commemorating one of the great
battles of World War II. Mr. Brown is largely known throughout area from
his work as an announcer on WVTF-FM radio. The Kiron Processional by
Roanoke College music professor, Joseph Blaha, celebrates the fairy tale
marriage of a real life couple. The concert will include Gustav Holst's
classic First Suite in Eb Major.
The concert is free and open to the public. No tickets are required.
